Merchant Novinsky’s Trade Route

Belarus–Russia Transboundary Ecological Water Route
Language(s): Russian

This illustrated booklet provides description of a new ecological route created in the Sebezhsky National Park of Russia and the Osveysky Nature Reserve of Belarus sharing a single lake system.

Description:

The 45 km long picturesque chain of lakes, rivers and channels is perfect for canoeing, and being combined with natural and historic trails, this route must attract interest among the young visitors of the park. The booklet contains information on both protected nature areas, on wetlands of the Sebezh Lake Country and on the rich history of the area that used to lie on the Trade Route from the Varangians to the Greeks connected Scandinavia and many Russian cities with Byzantium in the 9th–11th centuries.
